Anna Laura Tignor 1874 - 1960

Anna Laura Tignor
ANNA LAURA TIGNOR, born 5 August 1856 in Nodaway, Nodaway County, Missouri to Martha (unknown) and Vinson A. Tignor. She grew up in Missouri until 1873 when her parents decided to move west for a better life but on their way Anna became a victim of rape by the warring Indian's who were trying to protect their land from the encroaching white settlers. In August of 1874 Sarah Della Tignor was born. A product of the brutal rape. Sarah Della was born in Nebraska so it appears that Anna must have spent time there.
Probably two to three years later Anna Laura would marry Claiborn Davis Means who was also from Missouri. Claiborn would go on to be the father figure in Sarah Della's life.
Between 1877 and 1880 the Tignor family lived  in Kansas. There Ida Mae and Lucinda were born. The 1880 Census shows Anna Laura, Claiborn and two of their children, Ida Mae and Lucinda living in Grayson County Texas. Sarah Della would have been only 6 years old at this time but she does not appear on the 1880 census record. It is unclear why. From there it appears that they moved to Oklahoma as the remaining children, Laura Elizabeth, Dora, Jesse Vincent and Claliborn Frank were all born there. The census records of 1900, 1910 and 1920 show the family living in Sebastian County Arkansas. It appears that after Claiborn died Anna Laura spent her final years living with her daughter Dora and her husband Jasper Otis Osborn. Both Jasper and Dora are buried in the Old Bokoshe cemetery. My assumption is that this is where Anna Laura is also buried. Further research is needed to establish a death date and burial place. No records thus far have been found.
